Emily - Next Model Missouri Teen 2011

Could you tell us a little about yourself.
I'm Emily Gallup, a 16 year old high school junior from Missouri. I'm a member of
the champion (elite) debate squad on our nationally ranked top 10 debate team. In
my spare time, I dance ballet, jazz and pointe, and I play tennis on my high school
tennis team. I am also a new model for Model Talent Group in Kansas City, MO.
When and what got you started doing pageants?
I've always wanted to do pageants, but my Dad didn't want me to. Last year, I
decided to find pageants that reflect my goals, but that do not create a fake
persona for me. My dad agreed, and from that point forward, I have had a successful
run. I currently hold one national title and two state titles. I enjoy the
confidence I get when I do well at a pageant, and the travel involved.
What is your favorite part of pageants?
Although I enjoy talent, my strength is in interview and modeling, so those are the
categories I enjoy the most. Because I debate, I have a lot of fun with the onstage
interviews. I also enjoy walking the runway for modeling.
Anything funny happen to you at a pageant?
In my first national pageant, which I won, I was walking out the dressing room and
onto the stage. I didn't know that one of the cables in my path had come loose, and
I tripped on it.
What do you like most about pageants?
I really enjoy meeting people, and the encouragement that comes from pageantry. I
have made so many friends, and that has really broadened my experiences in life. I
also like the elegant clothes and dressing up. The college scholarships are nice,
too!
Have you competed in pageants before?
I've competed in Miss Missouri Beauty of the World, Miss USA Beauty of the World, Teen Miss US
United, Missouri National American Miss and Next Model. In November, I am competing
in the Teen Miss Missouri USA pageant.
Do you have a platform yet?
I actually have a couple of platforms. My passion is the health care field, so I
talk to school aged students about making smart life choices including no smoking,
no drinking, eating healthy and exercise. From that platform, I have also realized
how much I enjoy community service. I've organized community blood drives, hospital
toy drives, worked on projects such as rebuilding a city park vandalized by teens
and replanting at a nature sanctuary. I've recently been accepted to volunteer at a
homeless shelter supporting thrift store.
Do you have Any tips for the potential pageant girls?
Have fun and be yourself! If you win, this is a position you will hold for a year,
and you will want the judges to see what they are really getting. Eat healthy and
make good choices so your face and body will shine. PRACTICE!
I'm thankful to Next Model for giving me the confidence to go for my dream of a
modeling career. Because of that confidence, I am now represented by a modeling
agency.
Thank you so much! Emily..
